Back in Croatia

It took much longer to do the plane-bus-bus thing to get to Makarska than normal - so obvious that the number of tourists has increased - someone said  by 500%. In the end rather than waiting for another shuttle bus to arrive, and noting that there were at least two bus loads of punters in the line ahead of me, I talked a couple of Australians and a French girl into sharing a taxi. Faster and for the same price.

Because I'm shallow, I raced into the Diocletian Palace to check whether my favourite shops were still having summer sales - sadly no.

The bus took a long time to get through the traffic (I texted Annette to say I was losing the will to live) but finally pulled into Makarska - so lovely to be back here. Annette was waiting at the bus station to save me dragging my bag up the hill - and to rush me off into town to see a concert in the trg (square) - it was a bit too noisy for a conversation (so much to discuss) so we sat in Spina Bar and drank a few cocktails. Hugos specifically - which it seems turn into Huga when you ask for more than one. Croatian language is difficult (tesko).

It was late before we finally left the village.
Annette has had an English yoga teacher staying and so we both walked to Nugal the next morning.  This is a stunning 25 minute walk through the forest -

When I lived here it was more a locals' beach but now that the main beach is so crowded, the tourists have found more of these good spots - it is a FKK beach but the tourists leave their kostum za kupanje on. Gorgeous to feel the warmth of the sun and to have that beautiful clean sea to cool off in. Sadly the walk back is a hot challenge which requires Radler sitting in a bar... mmm this deliciousness now comes in lime, lemon, grapefruit and Elderflower (my favourite). (is this blog turning into an alcohol review??)
