Moving On, Changing Countries
So Saturday morning I was in Bled, then I was in Ljubljana, then sitting in Zagreb Airport (zracna luka) where I bought my first coffee back in
Croatia (expensive, but that’s airports I guess). Oh, and experienced the 'attitude' that some Croatians in positions of authority have - oh dear...
The
Intrepid Tour finished with a dinner together and from there, the morning saw
us disperse – diaspora if you will. I sat and watched some of the master’s
champs from a café balcony (swimming, sadly the rowing didn’t start while I was
watching, even though I drank two cups of coffee. Really. Slowly).
I jumped on
the 10:30 bus back to what may become my favourite town, Ljubljana. One of my
Intrepid Tourers was on the same bus, we found another one in the main street
and spent the afternoon and evening together. Wonderful meal, excellent food and service, great company.
I really
rate Slovenia – it’s a little country with a huge heart and a large variety of
things to see and do. I liked that the tour was an active one because it meant
that we saw some parts of the countryside at a slower speed (not me, I’m
fast!).
The houses
are really interesting and it’s sometimes hard to tell whether a house is old
or new, because the style and building materials haven’t changed over the
years. Brick block construction, plastered and painted pastel colours. And lots
of hanging baskets of red or pink flowers - where the Linden tree is the national tree, the carnation is the flower – all manicured and pristine. Steep
tiled roofs with sticky up things to slow the fall of snow down. (No idea what to call these). I’ve added a
few photos of lovely ones that I saw.
So that’s
Slovenia for now – but I will be back. Anyone want to join me?
For now, its Makarska again - and you know how I feel about this place -I write this I am sitting like a Princess in the Tower, in the apartment at the top of Batosic B & B - amazing to be here, lovely company with Annette and Srdjan.
Extra bonus is Annette's amazing yoga retreat this week - so yoga at sunrise and sunset by the beach - who could argue with that?
