It's that time again... although I have to say that there is (perhaps) a little less enthusiasm this time. I'm enjoying my family so much that  I wonder why I'm leaving them all!

So, this year, on 1 August, I fly to Nice, have a room booked in an airport (read nasty, but not necessarily cheap) hotel. I've been there before so know the deal - shuttle bus, book in, go straight to the pool and try to stay awake until after dinner! I have a very early flight to Bordeaux the next morning and will roam around Bordeaux for four days and nights. I'm looking at cycling tours, walking tours, castle tours - a tour for the day to St Emillion. Then i move on to Sarlat for 3 days, during which I will hire a car and visit the cutest town of Conques.

It will be the 10th of  August when head to Toulouse to stay with Josette and Henry - it will be lovely to see them again - on the 12th of August the rowing starts - down the towpath beside the Canal du Midi for 206 kms. I have packed a couple of pairs of padded cycling shorts - the volunteer who has always found me a good bike with a comfortable seat won't be there this year, so i'm hedging my bets on behalf of my nether regions. You can never be too careful with padding.

After the rowing event, its back to Makarska - a very early morning flight from Toulouse to Split and then the stunning bus trip down the coast. I will languish on the beach i think. Actually, i know i will.

This year's new entry into my Balkan Bag is Serbia. I am flying to Belgrade on the 30th of August and am staying at a hotel called Smokvica. Smokva is a fig (I adore them) so Smokvica is a small fig.
Put 'ica' at the end of a word and it tells you that its small. 'Dan' is a day, 'Danica' is a little day (literally) but actually a morning star, a little sun.

I'm going to explore the area around Serbia and report back to you. On the 4th of August I fly to Ljubljana to meet my Guinea Pigs. I have a group of four who have volunteered their time and good sense to be my first tour group. We are going to explore Ljubljana, Piran, a few caves: then there is mountain with our name on it in Bled, and a few bikes with our names on the seats...

Then we'll head on the bus to Zagreb (just for the fun of going through the border patrol) fly to Split - smother ourselves in luxury at an a boutique hotel there, and the pop across to the island of Hvar, Stari Grad - check out the blue and green caves - bit of boat trip.

Then we will regroup in Makarska, beach, scooters, visit the old villages, a few day trips... and for a wee treat i will spend my last four days in.... Hydra! Greece.

So come along with me, i think that you'll like the variety and the company!
