Sailing

After a morning coffee with Branka and Ivana, I raced back to the house to go sailing with
Annette and Srdjan - always a treat!

Not a breath of wind as we headed out of the marina and towards Otok  Brac, to a little bay where they go regularly.

As we anchored and Srdjan swam to put a bow grapple out, the water temperature was 27.5 with the most incredible clarity. The sea here really is the most incredible colour of  Sapphire Gin blue. My grandfather used to describe it but we thought that the picture had just improved with age and time - rose coloured spectacles, but he was absolutely accurate. We had a chilly bin of deliciousness prepared, a beer for Srd, a basge for me, mineralna voda for Annette. Salads, stuffed paprika and apple strudel...a picnic for a king.

Then up to the deck for me to read and catch some sun (actually fell asleep immediately).

I woke with a start, and slipped quietly into the water (or tried to, but there was a loud splash), swam to the shore and wandered along the various tracks - you know what a sucker I am for tracks. In one direction the track led to a holiday home with a pool, and in the other direction up into the suma (with a 'sh') - the forest vibrated with the sound of the cicadas, a heavy sound that seems to follow your steps - I've tried to spot one on the trees when the sound is really close, but to no avail. And the air  too was heavy with the smell of the pine needles - I love it. I didn't love that someone had been before me and left a trail of toilet paper, but I guess needs must. Or something. But go behind the rock walls, please...

There was a strong wind as we returned, and the temperature had dropped a bit - what a perfect day. Nice to get out of the heat of town, nice to have the sea right there to cool off.  Great company as always! (Thanks Annette and Srdjan x)

(And final pictures as testament to the crowds on the main beach).
