Around the Lake

After our fabulous day trip with Petra at Trip Your Day, we needed a day of R & R - shopping in style in Ljubljana. That's all I need to say about that.

We finished the day in Tabar, a fabulous cafe with the most exquisite tapas, ones that set our taste buds on fire, and had us guessing what on earth the ingredients were. Was it only rabbit stomach in the terrine? Black Carrots?

The bus tickets were booked for 10am, early enough to get to Bled in a timely manner, but late enough to enable us to hunt down a coffee.

The bus from Bled is only 1 hour or so, through rolling green land, alpine hill vistas and chalet type houses. We trundled our suitcases along the road, hoping against hope (the tourist's prayer) that the wheels would survive the journey over the cobbles. (You'll recall that I have already had to oil mine with expensive body oil).

Bled is a magical lakeside village with ugly hotels on the lake's edge at the end by the bus stop. Really ugly, although like the ugly duckling, the ugliest Hotel Park is also home and originator of the Kremsnita custard square. We of course are now connoisseurs of said Kremsnita.

The lake is 6 ks in circumference, and we undertook the gentle stroll  - We stood watching an international triathlon for a while, thin people on thin bikes racing past us, and decided that it called for an ice cream. And not saying that we are a competitive bunch, but it was game on for the best photo - not a difficult ask as Lake Bled is a picture postcard. It actually occurred to us that we could start a postcard business with the photos achieved...

Here are a selection of photos from our meander
