Evening out

Sometimes when you are travelling, it's hard to find food that you really truly want to eat for dinner. Especially me. Not pizza. Not meat lasagne with no meat (so just pasta and cheese even though meat was mentioned as an ingredient). Not burger.

After my day in the sun, I spruced up and wandered in a different direction from my current home.  The town is layered with ulice running in line with the port and working its way back up the hill, linked by stairways and covered tunnels. Wandering down one corner and up another one I stumbled upon the most beautiful walled konoba, one that I hadn't noticed before - it was exquisite. I asked for a table (are you alone? Yes, I'm travelling alone... no, we are booked out, maybe tomorrow...maybe you would like a seat for a drink and just a starter?...) - and next thing I found myself in a corner with a gorgeous cocktail, and a plate of pasta with a truffle sauce.

Life has so many treats around the corner(s) for us. The place was filled with happy people, a secret garden behind a stone wall, the atmosphere was elegant and overflowing with interesting little corners, gentle music playing and attentive staff. What a treat. Sometimes you need to wander away from the crowd.

And then about midnight, I woke to a flash of lightening and the loudest clap of thunder. I managed to leap out and bring my laundry rack in (and my neighbour was doing the same thing) and then lay in bed listening to the thunderstorm that had been building for a few days. Croatia gets points for thunderstorms, they are loud and dramatic and don't outstay their welcome. Last night there were shrieks of laughter as everyone was running for cover from the storm. And although there is a gentle breeze blowing still, this morning the air has cleared, there are puddles to avoid, and everyone is out and about again.
