Friday Adventures - same same but different
Still on Otok Vis. Haven't heard or sung any mama mia songs, although had the most delicious bowl of healthy breakfast stuff at Mama Mia Cafe this morning, but I'm getting ahead of myself.
At home my alarm goes off at 5:15 and so my body clock continues to do that here, so figuring it is the coolest part of the day, I roll with it, throw the Aktiv gear on and go walking. It was a big walk this morning, I walked for nearly two hours, up hills, down hills (hate it when you go down hill and know full well that you must pass that way again with a bit more effort). I was looking for Mala Svitnja (which is just past Velika Svitnja) - walked a lot of tracks and little side roads, but didn't find it. Some of the paths look like they are public and lead somewhere but then turn out to be privatno. Still, the views were good, and I got a great cicada recording.
Jugo is blowing, and the mornings have started with what looks like rain clouds which never quite get there.
After my acai breakfast bowl (delicious but that stuff does get stuck in your teeth) I booked another scooter with the plan to find Stiniva. For those who use Instagram, if you just talk about Vis near your phone the old algorhythm throws pictures of all sorts of beaches at you, and one of those is Stiniva.
Details are that you find it (not so easy, missed it in my adventures the other day) and then there is a 25 minute walk which requires Stout Shoes.
I had a map tucked into Son In Laws handy bum bag and stopped a few times to double back and check road signs. It was freaken hot. Freaken.
Here is the sign confirming that I was in the right place, and honestly the sign wasn't overreacting.
The track was dusty with a lot of loose stones, and incredibly steep - fortunately there were a few trees and branches to grab onto. Not for the faint hearted, and you definitely earned the right to be there when you emerged from the trees onto the beach.
As I mentioned, Jugo was blowing and so there was a bit of a wave surge coming through the gap with even a few rogue waves which had people grabbing towels and squealing. Maybe 60 people there? and a steep beach which means that you are quickly underwater after three or four steps. Sooo delicious to just float in the water with the spray coming off the waves. Kids jumping off the rocks. As the sun moved, the cliffs put the beach into shade which was very welcome from my spot on a beach lounger (yes dear reader, 7 euro and worth every cent).
If you are ever over this way (and why wouldn't you) this is a worthwhile day trip, absolutely loved it. Cost of the scoot, 43 euro for 6 hours, cost of the petrol to re-fill the tank, 1.49 euro. Priceless day (although I've just told you the price, BUT it was a perfect day - no price on that).
