Feral

Image
I admit to having become a little feral the last few days - it has been so incredibly hot that to dry my hair properly brings me out in such a sweat that the result is needing to have another swim or shower immediately - and then 10 minutes later, the heat has ruined any style at all. So it has been tied up in a band, clipped back away from my neck. Even worse, pulled back after swimming and just left. Case in point is the other night when Annette and I went to a 7:30 pm yoga class after being on the beach. The pull of this class was that it was a teacher from Zagreb (and it was free).  I rushed from the beach, pulled my yoga shorts on, motorbike helmet and we left. The photos show how wild I looked. Yesterday morning, I decided I would Make An Effort. I blow dried my hair (working myself into a sweaty lather) pulled a dress on (I've been living in my denim shorts).  I then did the ironing which added to the lather, rushed down to the kolodvor to see Lynarre off to ...

Morning Wandering

Image
I wandered down to the sea this morning at 7am - thinking maybe I would see the rowers, and the temperature was a bit cooler. No rowing this morning but Zelko was there (he rowed for Croatia Back In The Day), he'd been out in a single. He showed me the recent renovations in the club (not finished, run out of money). First question again 'when did you arrive' and then 'you look in good condition, no kilos'. Always makes me think of a used car. The light was beautiful, a few hardy souls out running, a few walking. I followed the track around Sveti Petar, past the old church, the path where people have decided it is a bridge in Paris and have added padlocks swearing eternal love to each other, past the statue of Sveti Petar, and into the harbour. Cheapest coffee in town at Arbun which is a working mans cafe. Good coffee accompanied by lots of cigarette smoke, but I like going there. It's usually filled with older men, just s...

When last we spoke, I was in Trogir. I took the local bus back to the airport, my thinking being that the shuttle bus is more comfortable and the local bus would stop a million times before reaching its destination. And I had no idea where the final stop was in relation to the Diocletian Palace of the kolodvor. Back at Split, I may have done a little shopping (although it was shoes I was thinking about, and I found nothing that rocked me). I found a delicious chia breakfast bowl in a cafe, and together with a good coffee, I can report that the quality and range of food available now compared with 10 years ago is incredible. Gluten free, vegan, stunning salads and fruit smoothies are now freely available. Yuss! I missed the 1:30 bus because I wanted to locate the hotel we are staying in  in early September (by we, I mean me and my GPs) and after getting lost a few times I found it - and it is as gorgeous as the website promised. It will cost an arm and a leg compared with some o...

No Title (which in itself is a title, I guess)

I'm losing track of what I have been up to, I've been busy. I went to 'Mimi' to have my hair coloured - it's one of my Travelling Treats because (Big Reveal) I'm grey and usually colour my hair myself to disguise that fact. I'm able to say very nicely the colour cocktail in Croatian and then I sit and relax. The girls remembered me from others years so there were some funny conversations as I attempt my  Croatian, even though their English is fabulous. And its fun reading the glamour magazines and trying to translate. Busy keeping up with the ironing in the morning (after a few stretches) - I know that my personality loves routine, and I make nice piles with the towels and the pillow cases - is that weird? Disclaimer is that I didn't do the ironing yesterday because Srd was heading to Split at 7 am to pick up some Italian guests and I hitched a ride with him. Now - Here's the Thing - I have amused myself for a few years with the thought that ...
